Job SummaryProvides direct patient care/physical therapy services to a caseload of residents in a non‑CMS skilled care facility. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the Physical Therapy department and performs administrative duties inherent in the position. Supervises one Certified Physical Therapy Assistant, students (if a PT elects to precept), and any department volunteers. Participates in key organizational committees including Performance Improvement, Safety and Falls committees.
Responsibilities- Reviews requests for physical therapy services, establishes service and program priorities, and coordinates programs and services with other departments.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises clinical training of physical therapy students; develops and coordinates clinical research programs, study projects, and audit activities related to patient treatment.
- Develops and establishes departmental policies and procedures, completes annual review of all departmental and facilities policies, and recommends modifications.
- Participates in personal and departmental professional growth through continuing education required for state licensure and national board certification, in‑service activities, professional meetings, community involvement, and independent study.
- Supervises and evaluates Physical Therapist Assistant, Restorative Technician, students, and volunteers.
- Develops and implements physical therapy programs based on residents’ needs and skill levels; provides high‑quality patient care, including screening, evaluating, program planning, treatment implementation, and documentation.
- Trains staff in new or revised work/treatment methods and procedures for the administration of therapy.
- Participates in team meetings for the purpose of coordinating and evaluating the appropriateness and effectiveness of patient care; serves as the Physical Therapy department representative on committees.
- Inventories and requisitions supplies and equipment needed to perform physical therapy services; monitors and maintains equipment in good working order.
- Maintains departmental administrative and patient care records, including attendance, patient progress, ongoing departmental patient care audit activities, services, equipment procurement and maintenance, and monthly and annual reports.
- Performs all other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) accredited Physical Therapy School with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy.
- Licensed by the State of Georgia as a Physical Therapist.
- At least two years of experience in all facets of Physical Therapy; supervisory experience or training in managing staff.
- Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
- Geriatric Physical Therapy clinical certification.
- Experience with the Point Click Care electronic medical record system.
- Experience in long‑term care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and training in functional mobility.
- Ability to plan and provide skilled intervention dependent on assessed deficits.
- Management skills to supervise physical therapy assistants and restorative technicians, students, and volunteers.
- Ability to operate equipment and perform technical procedures; make simple mechanical adjustments/repairs.
- Ability to mentor, motivate, and evaluate staff; communicate effectively and positively with all rehab and facility staff.
- Capacity to prioritize workload and accomplish departmental objectives.
- Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
- Pay Band: B15.
- Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
