Wellstar MCG Health System, Inc. is a not‑for‑profit organization that centers our decisions around the people we serve. The Athletic Training Outreach program serves two counties with a total of nine high schools. Athletic trainers play a crucial role in the health and safety of each athlete in the secondary school setting.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

The athletic trainer is expected to perform appropriately in the following domains:

  • Injury and illness prevention and wellness promotion
  • Examination, assessment, and diagnosis
  • Immediate and emergency care
  • Therapeutic intervention

Additional duties include evaluating athletic and non‑athletic conditions for high‑school patients, conducting therapeutic interventions, educating stakeholders, coordinating scheduling for Wellstar associated clinic appointments and follow‑ups, documenting all interactions in the electronic medical recording system, maintaining all required documentation, practicing within local, state, and national regulations, and complying with all Wellstar Health System policies and code of conduct.

Required

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s in Exercise Science or Athletic Training
  • Master’s in Athletic Training (optional)
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
  • BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor or BLS – Basic Life Support
  • CAT – Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Appropriate state credential as an athletic trainer (upon hire)
Required Minimum Experience
  • Less than 1 year with approved degree from a CAATE accredited bachelor’s or master’s program
  • 15 or more years with a bachelor’s in a related field (kinesiology or exercise science) and successful certification prior to the 2004 BOC eligibility change
