Electrical & Instrumentation Technician
Location: Georgia-Pacific Corrugated, Augusta, GA.
Salary: anticipated to start at $44/hr.
Hours: Flexible; any shift including overtime, holidays, and weekends.
Team: Maintains plant equipment to ensure safe production of corrugated boxes.
What You Will Do- Troubleshoot and repair plant electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and automation equipment; perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and installation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve downtime events quickly and effectively.
- Support operations to keep machines at target conditions and standard operating speeds.
- Identify and initiate maintenance repairs to sustain equipment performance.
- Use specialized computers and software to maintain instrumentation, PLCs, HMI, and electrical systems.
- Install, calibrate, monitor, modify, program, and maintain PLC, HMI, and DCS controls.
- Apply experienced electrical knowledge to low-, medium-, and high‑voltage systems (AC & DC), lighting, motors, receptacles, starters, drives, power supplies, transformers, and controllers.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and drawings.
- Use tools and testers to maintain and repair motors, starters, drives, and instrumentation.
- Change hardware to maintain the interface between automation and operations for optimal process control.
- Efficiently operate and train HMI and robotics system controls.
- Maintain equipment that monitors flow, temperature, density, and pressure.
- Manage E&I projects for new and existing installations.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert for all EI & A issues plant‑wide.
- Be readily available for consult calls to resolve reactive discrepancies.
- Maintain routine on‑call status.
- Provide EI&A electrical assistance to all plant areas and equipment.
- Mentor and train peers to bridge knowledge gaps between Multi‑Craft and Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation focuses.
- Five (5) years or more of electrical or instrumentation and control troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with industrial controls (PLCs, motor controls, control valves, electrical distribution, servo systems) and DC/AC motors from 24 VDC to 480 VDC.
- Expert level reading and following electrical and mechanical schematics and blueprints.
- Knowledge of electrical hazards, NFPA 70 arc‑flash safety, OSHA regulations, and other safety procedures.
- Experience installing, calibrating, monitoring, modifying, programming, and maintaining HMI and DCS instrumentation.
- Two (2) year degree or higher in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining corrugated equipment.
- Experience using infrared technology to diagnose potential electrical failures.
