What will you be doing!
  • Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards.
  • Participating in all safety training.
  • Sharing learned knowledge and skills with peers.
  • Working in the field and supporting varying project needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • A college diploma or university degree within an OSH or related field from an accredited Canadian or international program, or an extensive set of health and safety training and certifications, is required.
    • Possess, or must have ability to possess, minimum professional credentials as a CRST and NCSO.
    • CRSP or equivalent recognized designations, like the CSP or CMIOSH, are additionally preferred.
  • Experience
    • At least 4-6 years of OSH experience in an equivalent role within complex nuclear, research & technology, heavy construction projects, heavy manufacturing, industrial processing, mining, oil & gas, or other civil or environmental remediation experience.
    • Experience with in a radiation safety and/or protection setting is an asset, but not required.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Technical & practical OSH knowledge, including competent person and/or train-the trainer credentials, on various topics such as hazardous energy control, hoisting & rigging, ground disturbance, boring/digging/coring, fall protection, excavation and trenching, marine safety, heavy equipment operation, emergency & hazardous material release response, electrical safety, confined space.
    • Foundational knowledge of industrial hygiene in areas such as Asbestos, Silica, hazardous products/WHMIS, noise, heat stress, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C).
    • Detailed practical knowledge of Canadian provincial and federal OSH legislative requirements, compliance frameworks, standards and industry best practices.
    • Completion of OSH risk registers, hazard assessments, JHA/JSA, and working with behaviour-based safety programs.
    • Working knowledge of root-cause analysis principles and tools such as Taproot, Apparent Cause Analysis (ACA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and other safety analytical tools.
    • Ability to maintain and grow safety knowledge, including industry best practices and pending changes in legislation.
    • Understanding of core Human Performance principles.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • Must have the ability to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 12 hours a day.
  • Able to manage stairs, ladders, and other egress equipment that enter all site and building areas, including confined spaces.
  • Able to use personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
  • Extensive walking on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to wear a respirator and other PPE&C as required.
  • Work in both radio logically active and non-active environments.
