Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Alumni Engagement Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing programs that engage students, young alumni, and recent graduates while fostering lifelong connections to AU. The role oversees Homecoming events; develops and delivers student‑to‑alumni transition and young alumni engagement strategies; and manages, advises, and supervises the Student Alumni Ambassadors, including recruitment and training.

Through strategic programming, communications, events, and partnerships across campus, this position educates students and alumni on the value of lifelong engagement and builds collaborative relationships to support alumni relations goals. Additional responsibilities include cross‑departmental collaboration, travel, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Develop programming that supports the transition from student to alumni, educating students and recent graduates on the power and importance of lifelong engagement with AU.
  • Execute strategies to engage young alumni and recent graduates through communications, events, programs, and dedicated resources.
  • Provide leadership and advising to the Student Alumni Ambassadors, who serve as 'alumni in residence', fostering education, engagement, and awareness of alumni relations.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Student Alumni Ambassadors board of directors.
  • Coordinate and execute Homecoming programs and events, overseeing all phases from initial planning and development through implementation.
  • Cultivate lifelong relationships and assist in executing student‑to‑alumni transition programs from orientation to commencement to include AU, DCG, and MCG.
  • Build partnerships and cultivate relationships with Student Affairs, Admissions, Residence Life and Housing, Student Life and Engagement, etc. to foster collaboration and communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, communication, non‑profit leadership, hospitality, education, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of demonstrated experience in advising students, event planning, program management, or alumni engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned and some travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three to five years' related experience.
  • Graphic design software knowledge, particularly Indesign.
  • Prior experience in private college/university advancement and/or alumni relations.
  • Experience in fundraising or fundraising support (preferably higher education fundraising).
  • Knowledge of software used for fundraising/alumni data and an understanding of information management in a database structure (esp. Raiser's Edge).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems, handle confidential information, and navigate sensitive situations.
  • Requires adaptability, good judgment and initiative.
  • Excellent oral, written, and grammatical communication skills.
  • Highly developed computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and constituent‑related software.
  • Ability to multi‑task, think creatively and handle a heavy workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical abilities.
