Job Summary
Job . Position # . The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a clinically oriented ABIM board‑certified faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as an academic Infectious Disease specialist and participate in both inpatient and outpatient services. The position emphasizes clinical care, education, and scholarly activity.
Opportunities exist to work with house staff, fellows, and physician extenders. Education and clinical research will be available based on experience and expertise. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
- Outpatient Infectious Disease Practice – 40%:
Develop a robust outpatient infectious disease practice, staffing two (2) half days per week at the Wellstar downtown practice sites and/or satellite locations and staff fellow’s clinic as needed. - Inpatient Infectious Disease Consult Services – 20%:
Participate in inpatient infectious disease consult services. Other clinical duties will be adjusted accordingly during inpatient service periods, when possible. - Call Schedules – 5%:
Participate in night and weekend call schedules similar to colleagues. - Infectious Disease Procedures and Consultations – 25%:
Engage in hospital‑based infectious disease procedures and consultations. - Teaching/Research – 10%:
Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows. Participate in scholarly activities including publication of case reports, review articles, and original scientific reports.
MD/DO or equivalent. Board Eligible/Board Certified in Infectious Disease. State of Georgia medical license before seeing patients.
Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post‑graduate training.
Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full‑time.
Salary and compensation for each rank is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and is subject to availability of funds.
