academic advisement is where undergraduates begin. Our centralized advisement services are designed to provide comprehensive support as students navigate their way into their respective major programs. Our team of undergraduate academic advisors are well-versed in the undergraduate programs and core curriculum, assisting students in developing academic plans, selecting courses, recommending actions, and connecting them with campus resources as needed. We work closely with academic programs and support services to help students identify and confirm their academic career paths.

Our professional advisors offer ongoing support through outreach services, personalized calls, targeted emails, and electronic messages.

job summary

the undergraduate academic advisor provides mentoring and advisement for a cohort of first and second year students to assist in goal setting, academic planning, and career exploration through personal follow-up/outreach, individual appointments, and programming.

responsibilities
  • provide direct student advising and support: meet formally with students, guide goals, maintain accurate notes, conduct outreach, and cultivate supportive communication through phone, text, email, and face‑to‑face interactions.
  • advise and retain students regarding degree requirements, monitor retention and progression, connect students with academic and non‑academic services, and maintain thorough documentation of individual sessions.
  • provide professional development and operational support: analyze advising activity reports, coordinate communication plans, assist in developing and evaluating events and programs, attend departmental meetings, and participate in relevant training.
  • perform all other duties as assigned.
required qualifications
  • master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related experience or bachelor's degree with two years of experience in education or a customer/student‑facing role.
preferred qualifications
  • master's degree from an accredited college or university with experience in higher education.
knowledge

proficient in microsoft office and other computer software/databases.

knowledge of advisement theories and practices to help students achieve success.

excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

shift/salary/benefits

shift: days; m‑f (work outside of standard business hours may be required). Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment period: until filled. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, teachers retirement system (or optional retirement plan), vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees employed for more than 6 months are eligible for the tuition assistance program.
