Overview
Augusta University's Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is hiring a Department Chair for the Department of English and World Languages. This is a tenure-track/tenured position at the rank of Professor or higher and anticipated to begin July 2026. The preferred candidate will have a PhD in English or a closely related discipline and meet the qualifications for professor in one of the departmental programs.

Responsibilities- Program and curricular development
- Budget and personnel management including personnel evaluation
- Faculty research activities
- Student recruitment activities
- Student progression, retention, and graduation support
- Mentoring departmental faculty
- Class scheduling and enrollment management
- Revising and/or creating department planning documents
- Assessment and accreditation reporting as required
- Support for fundraising activities as requested
- Other activities may be needed and will be assigned by the Dean.
Professor:
PhD in English or a related field and two or more years experience serving in an academic leadership role such as a Program Director or Department Chair.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation.
- Evidence of ability as a teacher.
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
- Desirable personal qualities judged based on personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
- Experience in serving as an Assistant Chair or interim Chair.
- PhD in English or a closely related discipline
- This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
- The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to the availability of funds.
