Overview

Assistant/Associate Professor in Economics – Augusta University, Summerville Campus, Augusta, GA. Job . Full time, tenure-track faculty position in Economics at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, with anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.

The selected candidate should have demonstrated capability or potential in developing discipline-relevant, peer-reviewed intellectual contributions. About 40% of the workload will be dedicated to research and faculty development. Course load will be 2-3 courses per semester term, or about 50% of the workload. Candidates should be prepared to deliver courses online, as hybrid online/face-to-face, and face-to-face, with a strong preference for candidates who can combine these approaches in an assigned section.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction (50%):
    Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and coursework on topics such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and public policy; prepare syllabi, assignments, exams, and grading rubrics; hold office hours; supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects or theses.
  • Research and Scholarship (40%):
    Conduct original research in area(s) of specialization; publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, and working papers; present research at academic conferences and seminars; seek and manage research funding through grants and proposals.
  • Departmental and University Service (10%):
    Serve on academic committees (e.g., hiring, curriculum development, admissions); participate in faculty meetings and institutional planning; contribute to accreditation or program assessment; participate in professional organizations and economics associations; stay up to date with developments in the field.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Economics, or a closely related field. Demonstrated capability or potential in developing discipline-relevant peer-reviewed intellectual contributions and teaching excellence.
  • For the rank:
    Assistant Professor – early career;
    Associate Professor – mid-career with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent training/experience.
  • Required faculty employment qualifications for USG institutions and academic ranks include:
    • Consistency with SACSCOC accreditation requirements;
    • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
    • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in other duties;
    • Successful experience (potentially waived for those new to the academic profession if other requirements are met);
    • Desirable personal qualities assessed by interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift, Salary & Benefits

This position is academic year based (August through May). The intended work commitment is 1.0 FTE. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and subject to the availability of funds. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, sick leave, retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and more. Full-time employees employed for more than 6 months may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.

Rank and salary are determined at hire and consider experience, education, credentials, and market data. Advancement through the faculty ranks follows the annual Promotion and Tenure process.
