Board certified/eligible in ophthalmology required; fellowship training in pediatric‑ophthalmology required. Clinical care of patients and teaching of residents and medical students is primary. Administrative/leadership opportunities may be available.
- Provide clinical care and treatment of patients.
- Participate in the growth of the clinical and educational programs of the department.
- Promote compliance with Wellstar MCG Health physician performance standards: quality indicators, medical records completion, patient satisfaction, billing and coding documentation, prompt charge submission, and professional conduct.
- Encourage and develop professional environments for high medical performance throughout the region.
- Develop collaborative relations with local community leaders.
- Actively participate in teaching activities in the Department of Ophthalmology.
- MD, DO or equivalent.
- Board certified/eligible in ophthalmology and fellowship training in pediatric‑ophthalmology.
- Rank‑specific faculty employment qualifications per USG institutions:
- Assistant Professor – early‑career faculty with appropriate postgraduate training.
- Associate Professor – mid‑career faculty with at least five years as Assistant Professor or comparable experience.
- Professor – senior‑career faculty with at least five years as Associate Professor or comparable experience.
- Consistent with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements.
- Evidence of teaching ability, scholarly activity, and competence in all other assigned duties.
- Successful prior experience (waived for new academics who meet all other criteria).
- Desirable personal qualities assessed via interview, biographical data, and references.
Fiscal year based, year‑round work. Full‑time equivalent (FTE) 1.0. Salary commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to funding availability. The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is among the nation’s largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. MCG’s educational experience anchors the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses across Georgia, and two four‑year campuses in Athens (with the University of Georgia) and Savannah (with Georgia Southern University). MCG and its teaching hospitals serve more than 350 clinical sites statewide for third‑ and fourth‑year students and provide postgraduate education to roughly 575 residents and fellows in 50 accredited programs.
