The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as a Pediatric Palliative Care physician. This position will provide palliative care consultations for patients from birth to young adulthood and will include prenatal consultations for pregnant mothers who are anticipating delivery of an infant with congenital malformations or other conditions with anticipated need for NICU care.
Clinical care includes supportive care for medically complex patients or those with life-limiting conditions. The program focuses on patient- and family-centered care with support across care sites (inpatient, outpatient, and home via Telephone/Telehealth) and across time (prenatally through age 21). The provider will assist with development of symptom management plans (inpatient and home use), psychosocial support for families, and care coordination to help families navigate the healthcare system.
The position interfaces with multiple inpatient teams and outpatient providers to coordinate patient care and family support. The provider will help direct utilization of the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Palliative Care team and will maintain/ensure relevant patient records are updated and share weekday coverage.
Education/Teaching - 10%
Successful candidates will have a proven history of excellent clinical skills, practice evidence-based medicine, and a desire to educate regarding palliative care to multiple levels of trainees. Educational responsibilities include, but are not limited to, mentorship, clinical supervision, and consultation to residents/medical students/staff at AU and developing a more in-depth educational experience for trainees in palliative care. The role includes training residents/students/staff at AU/Wellstar at MCG in palliative care through didactics and bedside teaching.
Required QualificationsMedical degree from an accredited medical school/university or equivalent, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or equivalent clinical experience. Must have or be eligible for a State of Georgia Medical License, Federal DEA, and be CPR certified. South Carolina licensure is helpful as we serve patients residing in SC.
Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.
Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
