Position: Open Rank- Clinical Faculty in Radiology and Imaging

Job Summary

The Department of Radiology and Imaging at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University is recruiting a faculty member at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, as an Interventional Radiologist. This opportunity joins a department in the midst of expansion, including growth of our Georgia Cancer Center and development of a second hospital site. Candidates should have an interest in teaching medical students and diagnostic and integrated IR/DR residents.

Responsibilities include clinical service and teaching with opportunities for clinical research in a busy tertiary and qua ternary care center, Wellstar MCG Health. Our center has ACGME‑accredited IR integrated residency and diagnostic residency programs. Academic time is provided, and new research projects are encouraged. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Clinical / Procedural Service – 25%
  • Perform a broad spectrum of IR procedures including interventional oncology, image‑guided biopsies and drainages (CT, US guided) for various body sites, and non‑vascular interventions.
  • Run / supervise IR clinics (pre‑procedure evaluation, post‑procedure follow‑up) to manage patient care longitudinally. Ability to see patients in clinic for consultation to plan interventions.
  • Participate in emergent & on‑call IR services: urgent / emergent vascular and non‑vascular procedures.
Teaching & Education – 25%
  • Supervise, teach, and mentor IR/DR residents, diagnostic and interventional radiology residents, and medical students.
  • Provide didactics: lectures, case conferences, journal clubs in interventional radiology topics.
  • Oversee procedural training: ensure residents get hands‑on experience under supervision, learn sterile techniques, image guidance, and procedural planning.
  • Evaluate and give feedback on resident performance.
  • Be involved in curriculum design for the IR section / residency: defining procedural competencies, rotations, clinical evaluation tools.
Research & Scholarly Work – 25%
  • Engage in clinical or translational research: publish papers, present at national and international meetings.
  • Possibly participate in or lead multi‑center trials.
Service, Administrative & Leadership – 25%
  • Serve on departmental and hospital committees relevant to IR: protocol development, safety, equipment procurement, clinical operations.
  • Work with referring specialties (surgery, oncology, hepatology, nephrology, vascular surgery) for multidisciplinary care, tumor boards, planning of complex cases.
  • Manage and optimize IR suite operations: scheduling, resource management, procedural throughput.
  • Assist in strategic planning for growth of IR service lines (e.g., adding new procedures, expanding volumes/complexity).
Required Qualifications

MD, DO, or equivalent degree. Completion of Diagnostic Radiology residency and Interventional Radiology fellowship or integrated IR/DR training. Board certification or eligibility in Interventional Radiology. Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.

Faculty rank requirements:

  • Instructor – medical professional in training holding a medical degree and completed residency training who will contribute to teaching, student support, and the clinical mission of the institution.
  • Assistant Professor – early‑level career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.
  • Associate Professor – mid‑level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor – senior‑level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
