The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology in the Department of Pediatrics at the Augusta University Medical College seeks a full‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor who will serve as a Pediatric Pulmonologist. Augusta University is the region’s only pediatric pulmonologist center and one of only two Cystic Fibrosis Centers in Georgia accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We participate in a national CF Therapeutics Development Network program and are active in multi‑center CF research protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
This thriving practice offers the opportunity to see a wide range of pulmonary patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. A comprehensive Pediatric Pulmonary Function Laboratory staffed by Pediatric Respiratory Therapists is conveniently located in the ambulatory practice. We provide team‑based care for a growing number of ventilator‑dependent patients and multidisciplinary clinics with otolaryngology for sleep and airway disorders. We also offer multidisciplinary aerodigestive care with ENT and GI colleagues and use telemedicine to serve children in remote Georgia areas.
This position is not on a tenure track.
Clinical – 90%
Provide high‑quality, comprehensive pediatric pulmonology care to improve quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. Participate in assigned clinical duties with other faculty, including call duties and coverage on nights, weekends, and holidays. Meet all metrics associated with Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE). Progress through clinical service at Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia and outpatient clinics. Meet and maintain productivity targets set by the department chair and MCG Dean’s Office.
Promote professional relationships and build referral patterns with Wellstar MCG physicians and external physicians. Provide prompt feedback to referring physicians.
Teaching – 10%
Provide education and training to fellows, residents, medical students, and staff in pediatric pulmonology, including clinical supervision, consultation, and didactics. Achieve and maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above the department mean. Attend 50% or more weekly pediatric Grand Rounds presentations and monthly faculty meetings.
- MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) with Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.
- Successfully completed 72 months of training, including 36 months of pediatric residency and 36 months of pediatric pulmonology.
- Eligible for a Georgia medical license, federal DEA, and board certified (or board eligible) in pediatric pulmonology.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
- Assistant Professor – early level career faculty member with appropriate post‑graduate training.
- Consistent with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) institutional accreditation requirements and evidence of teaching and scholarly activity.
Salary will be commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and is subject to availability of funds. The position is fiscal year based and works year‑round with a full‑time equivalent (FTE) of 1.0. Rank and salary are determined at hire based on experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, internal equity, and market data.
