The Department of Art and Design at Augusta University is a vibrant, NASAD‑accredited community of makers, thinkers, and innovators within the Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Located on the historic Summerville Campus, our department offers an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to foster imagination and prepare students for the creative careers of tomorrow.

Our programs span animation, filmmaking, theatre, digital and visual storytelling, graphic design, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, and sculpture. Faculty and students engage in research and scholarship, collaborating with the medical center and the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center.

Job Summary

The Administrative Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Department of Art and Design. This position ensures efficient day‑to‑day operations by managing departmental communications, coordinating HR processes, supporting faculty and student needs, and assisting with departmental events and special projects. The Administrative Assistant also serves as key support to the Department Chair, helping manage calendars, prepare reports, and facilitate departmental initiatives.

Responsibilities
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for departmental phones, email, and walk‑in inquiries.
  • Manage departmental calendar for departmental events, schedule meetings and reserve rooms.
  • Manage the Chair's calendar, schedule meetings, and coordinate appointments.
  • Assist with faculty recruitment processes and onboarding tasks.
  • Transcribe meeting minutes and prepare correspondence, and reports.
  • Run enrollment reports.
  • Compile and organize data for departmental reports, accreditation reports, enrollment summaries, and budget tracking.
  • Support the Chair in planning departmental events, visiting artist programs, and special projects.
EVENT AND PROGRAM COORDINATION
  • Support planning and execution of departmental events, visiting artist agendas, and special projects.
  • Assist with logistics for exhibitions, performances, and student showcases.
  • Create and send weekly events emails to students, faculty and community members.
OTHER

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in administrative support positions.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization and six years of progressively responsible experience in administrative support positions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with university systems (e.g., PACT).

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities with attention to detail.
ABILITIES
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
