Salary scale shown is minimum pay rate prior to the 2% CDL premium, and the maximum pay rate including premium pay and highest longevity pay, applicable only after 20 years of service.
The Vegetation Division within our Public Works Department is looking to hire a Maintenance Worker I. This position requires performing general labor and semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance and repair of City facilities, parks, and equipment. Tasks may involve heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity. Employees are expected to perform all duties of the Maintenance Worker I class as assigned.
Primary duties include:
- Operating and/or driving various equipment and machinery including pickups, loaders, tractors, sign trucks, pipe pushers, rollers, jackhammers, air compressors, concrete saws, chainsaws, mowers, blowers, chippers, generators, sprayers, forklifts, and V‑Box sanders.
- Operating dump trucks, paint trucks, or a combination of a single vehicle with a GVWR over 26,000 pounds, or a trailer with GVWR over 10,000 pounds, or a vehicle designed to transport 16 or more persons, or any vehicle carrying hazardous materials.
- Performing minor mechanical repairs on such equipment.
- Ordering materials and interfacing with sales personnel and vendors.
- Initiating work orders and maintaining accurate records of time and materials used.
- Interacting courteously with other employees, utility customers, vendors, and the public.
- Correctly and safely operating all equipment and tools used in assigned division.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of full-time, paid related work experience
- A valid driver's license without impending loss at time of appointment
You must obtain a Class "A" CDL and tanker endorsement within one (1) year of employment as a condition of continued employment.
If necessary for assigned work, an employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Public Pesticide Operator's license, DSHS Water Supply Certification, First Aid Certification, Flagging Certification, Forklift Certification and/or Defensive Driving Certification, or other required certification or license.
