Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Laser Cutter Operator to join our Fabrication team in Auburn, Algona, and Puyallup, Washington. Join our innovative manufacturing team as a Laser Cutter Operator, where your technical expertise will be vital in producing high-precision components for cutting-edge projects. In this dynamic role, you will independently set up, program, and operate advanced laser equipment, ensuring that each part meets stringent quality specifications.

You will collaborate closely with Engineering and Research and Development to develop and refine procedures that enhance laser operations while monitoring and procuring the necessary gases for optimal performance. Your attention to detail will shine as you utilize precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and finishes, and you will maintain safety and quality standards to ensure compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.

Position Responsibilities
  • Independently set up, program, operate, and adjust precision laser equipment to meet production and research requirements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Planning, and Research and Development to develop new procedures, techniques, and production aids for laser operations.
  • Monitor and procure appropriate lasing and cutting assist gases, ensuring safe handling and usage.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check machine readiness and verify completed parts for finish, dimensions, and quality conformance.
  • Select, secure, and maintain proper shop aids, attachments, and optics to maximize laser equipment capabilities and minimize setups.
  • Plan the sequence of work operations, including mounting, leveling, aligning, and fastening work, using powered and non-powered hand tools as needed.
  • Create and maintain job files, setup data, and backup data to support laser cutter operations.
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and monitor gas bottles or tanks, changing them as necessary to ensure safe operation.
  • Control access to laser systems and ensure compliance with Radiation/Safety Standards and Laser Operating Procedures during operations.
  • Operate and calibrate numerically controlled 3/5-axis laser cutting machines, including testing N/C programs prior to actual cutting operations.
  • Apply hold-down clamps and magnets to secure parts, ensuring proper indexing on laser holding fixtures.
  • Perform first part checks using precision measuring tools to ensure accuracy and resolve any issues through inter-organizational coordination.
  • Clean and deburr production parts prior to release to the shop, ensuring they meet quality standards.
  • Utilize online computer systems to access drawings and Boeing (BAC) specifications, ensuring all resources are available before operation.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and maintain personal and tool certifications.
Physical Demands and Potential Hazards
  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
