Position: Maintenance Worker I - CDL - Vegetation

The Vegetation Division within our Public Works Department is looking to hire a Maintenance Worker I. This position requires performing general labor and semi‑skilled manual work in the maintenance and repair of City facilities, parks, and equipment. The role involves heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity.

Salary scale shown is minimum pay rate prior to the 2% CDL premium, and the maximum pay rate including premium pay and highest longevity pay, applicable only after 20 years of service.

Responsibilities
  • Operating and/or driving various equipment and machinery including but not limited to pickups, one‑yard loaders or less, tractors and implements, sign trucks, pipe pushers, rollers, jackhammers, air compressors, concrete saws, chainsaws, all mowers except tractor mowers used to cut right‑of‑ways, blowers, leaf machines, hand equipment, chippers, small power equipment, generators, sprayers and spreaders, forklifts, and V‑box sanders.
  • Operating dump trucks, paint trucks, and/or a single vehicle or combination of vehicle(s) that exceed specified weight limits or transport hazardous materials.
  • Performing minor mechanical repairs on equipment.
  • Ordering materials, interfacing with sales personnel and vendors.
  • Initiating work orders and repair orders, and maintaining accurate records of time and materials used.
  • Interacting courteously with employees, utility customers, vendors, and the public.
  • Operating all equipment and tools used in the assigned division correctly and safely.
Required Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of full‑time, paid related work experience.
  • A valid driver’s license without impending loss at the time of appointment.

Class “A” CDL and tanker endorsement must be obtained within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment.

If necessary, the employee must obtain and maintain certifications such as a Public Pesticide Operator’s license, DSHS Water Supply Certification, First Aid Certification, Flagging Certification, Forklift Certification, Defensive Driving Certification, and other required licenses.
