A love of travel attracts many people to the field, but to succeed as a Travel Consultant you must be passionate about travel and the endless opportunities it brings to bridge history, cultures, and cuisine. Successful Travel Consultants must have a strong sales drive, organizational skills with an eye for detail, ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment, proficiency in navigating computers and various programs, and good written and oral communication skills.

The role also requires continuous learning and a keen interest in travel.

What does a AAA Travel Consultant do?
  • Sells international and domestic travel packages including cruises, land packages, travel itineraries, air, car, and hotel.
  • Shares knowledge and expertise from personal experiences and/or education study trips.
  • Develops long‑standing relationships with members and builds referral and repeat business.
  • Makes appropriate recommendations to ensure the trip experience exceeds expectations and is tailored to the member’s needs.
  • Cross‑sells relevant products such as the AAA Member Rewards Credit Card and identifies theft referrals.

For the right individual, this opportunity will be a career path for future leadership. As you progress you will be evaluated for proficiency in sales, customer service, administration, operations, up‑selling, cross‑selling, and goal achievement. Completion of evaluations may lead to management roles.

Required / Preferred Skills
  • High school diploma required; preferred 2‑ or 4‑year college degree.
  • Pass a comprehensive criminal background check and urine drug screening.
  • At least 2 years of successful retail sales, banking, or leisure travel agency experience in a goal‑oriented environment (preferred).
Qualifications
  • Travel passion—not just a hobby.
  • Availability to work most Saturdays and some evenings.
  • Completion of the Travel Consultant Trainee program, which includes some travel.
  • Driven by sales and exceeding goals.
  • Computer savviness: navigate multiple systems, web browsers, Microsoft Office; type at least 30 WPM.
  • Comfortable with paperwork and highly organized.
