Ideally we would like to find someone located in the Southeastern US, as we will require this person to travel to HQ on a regular basis.

As an embedded software engineer, you will work with a group of electrical, mechanical and other software engineers on a variety of engineering assignments. These tasks will span all stages of electronic product development including concept, design, prototyping, testing, installation, and maintenance of microcontroller-based electronic devices used in rugged outdoor environments.

You will primarily use C and Zephyr to develop microcontroller firmware for our ecosystem of devices. Additionally, you may use other languages such as Python or .NET to interact with, test, and validate the performance of the embedded software. You may also work with contractors to support development and testing hardware and software.

Ideally, the candidate will:

• have a background in software development for embedded systems
• experience with electronic hardware development is a plus
• have experience coding with C, C++, Python, and/or other programming languages
• have experience with electronic circuits, bread boarding and prototyping
• have experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
• have experience developing software for BLE, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB
• have experience developing software for SPI, UART, I2C
• have experience with real time operating systems (RTOS)
• have experience with git or other version control systems

Responsibilities:

• Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under minimal supervision
• Act as a lead for specific tasks and responsible for a portion of larger designs or in some cases full designs
• Coordinate and work with other Engineers and possibly other departments to define system specifications and requirements
• Develop, produce and maintain technical documentation and system specifications
• Conduct simulated field testing, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives as well as provide recommendations
• Develop and test software/firmware to support design and analysis of devices under test or development
• Develop, test and support production level software/firmware for devices in the field
• Provide support with software and hardware functional and quality testing
• Provide technical support to other internal teams, contractors and possibly end customers
• Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
