TES Inpatient Assistant - Veterinary Equine
The College of Veterinary Medicine is thrilled to announce an opening for a TES Inpatient Assistant – Veterinary Equine. This role involves providing essential patient care, including administering medications (IV, IM, PO, SQ), conducting hourly checks on all in‑house patients, and assisting service technicians as needed. This individual will directly instruct senior veterinary students in technical aspects of patient care, monitor the welfare of university‑owned horses (including those enrolled in research projects), and assist clinicians with procedures and the reception of emergency cases.
EssentialFunctions
- Instruction of veterinary students in various aspects of equine patient examination, catheter placement, nasogastric intubation, and general horse handling.
- Assisting clinicians, students, and residents with admission, patient restraint, and diagnostic procedures of equine cases admitted by the emergency service.
- Providing direct patient care, including physical examinations, medication administration, catheter placement, nasogastric intubation, obtaining blood, fecal and urine samples, and fluid therapy.
- Maintaining floor stock and cleanliness of the hospital by restocking and cleaning ICU, isolation, main treatment areas, and nurses’ stations in equine barns.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with horses, either personally or professionally.
Salary Range $15.00–$20.00 per hour based on experience.
Work Hours Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm. Position is located in Auburn, Alabama.
