The Customs Generalist is responsible for ensuring compliance with customs regulations and facilitating the smooth import of goods into the US. They support the clearance processes, maintain accurate documentation, and work with officials and internal stakeholders. Strong knowledge of tariffs, regulations, and trade compliance are essential, and must be able to adapt to changing environments. Customs Specialists may also train others, handle multiple tasks under pressure, and must remain organized and detail-oriented to meet internal & eternal deadlines.
Functionsand Responsibilities
- Support US Import Customs activities at the Northern & Southern Border, Air, and Ocean Ports of Entry.
- Maintain liaison with US Customs Brokers, rail carriers, highway carriers and Stellantis Logistics.
- Consult with Customs Manager to ensure qualified goods are entered claiming FTA.
- Support refund processes for duties and taxes previously paid by utilizing USMCA Recon, Post Summary Corrections (PSC), and Drawback programs.
- Work with Import Manager and Logistics to comply with C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
- Coordinate system development on US Customs requirements and make recommendations for changes that enhance the efficiency of operations and increase the compliance with the regulations.
- Support USMCA Qualification & Solicitation of all Parts and Vehicles.
- Support Solicitation & Calculation of US/Canada content for Monroney label to meet DOT/NHTSA American Automobile Labeling Act (AALA) requirements.
- Support Classification of imported goods & for FTA qualification.
- Assist US Customs Broker with Import clearance activities.
- Communicating with government agencies to resolve customs-related issues.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation for US Compliance Programs.
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with customs regulations.
- Staying up-to-date on changes in customs regulations and procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain; or relevant degree
- Customs operations knowledge
- Minimum 5 years of professional work experience
- Master’s Degree
- Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist
- Knowledge of associated supply chain disciplines
- Automotive industry experience
