The Industrial Hygienist will support routine industrial hygiene and toxicology programs for all FCA plants in NAFTA. A qualified candidate will need a strong toxicology and chemistry background to provide industrial hygiene services to plants
.
- Evaluate work operations, production methods, and engineering controls to determine potential contaminant emission sources or related health hazards associated with workplace conditions
- Conduct investigations of working conditions for prevention of occupational disease and industrial health hazards, with specific references to toxic substances, noise, physical (heat, illumination radiation, and electromagnetic frequency), and biological agents
- Measure airborne concentrations of dust, gases, mists, and vapors; uses air sampling instruments and collection devices
- Measure noise levels at the facilities; uses noise sampling instruments
- Creates noise, mist, illumination, and other hazard risk maps for the facilities
- Collect samples on employees and workstations to detect and evaluate employee exposure to toxic substances
- Calibrate industrial hygiene equipment
- Determine effectiveness of engineering control methods and makes recommendations regarding location, design, structure, operations, and maintenance of contaminant and physical agent control systems
- Use ventilation testing equipment and special measuring devices for the determination of airflow rates, noise, radiation, heat stress, and other physical factors in the facilities
- Evaluate confined spaces and is instrumental in helping the facilities with creating confined space surveys
- Evaluate the need for personal protective equipment for employees
- Participate in follow-up investigations to ensure corrective measures are carried out where required
- Evaluate chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as it relates to employee health
- Participate in special studies and monitoring programs to determine environmental conditions
- Interact with Plant and Corporate Medical departments to ensure employee health
- Bachelor degree in Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology, or related field
- 5 + years Industrial Hygiene or Toxicology experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding and application of federal, state, provincial and local environmental and safety regulations and requirements
- Effective written and verbal communication, excellent presentation skills
- Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and /or other software applications
