The Department of Animal Sciences at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Supervisor, Beef Teaching and Swine Units. The Supervisor will support the daily operations of the Beef Teaching Unit and Swine Unit within the Department of Animal Sciences. Working under the direction of the unit managers, this position provides technical oversight of farm operations, coordinates and trains student workers, and participates in animal care and management.
The Supervisor plays an important role in supporting the teaching, research, and Extension/outreach missions of the Department while maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant unit operations in coordination with the unit managers. This is a three-year, limited term position and is funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Assist unit managers with day-to-day farm operations, including feeding, health management, breeding, and production practices for beef and swine enterprises.
- Provide technical oversight of animal management activities, ensuring adherence to established protocols, animal welfare standards, and safety practices.
- Supervise, train, and mentor student employees, fostering the development of practical skills, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Monitor equipment, facilities, and supplies; perform or coordinate routine maintenance and repairs; report major needs to Unit Managers.
- Maintain accurate records related to animal inventories, health treatments, production data, and research activities as directed.
- Support teaching and research activities at the units, including animal preparation, student labs, demonstrations, and data collection.
- Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines for animal care and farm operations.
- Assist with special projects, events, and outreach activities as assigned.
- May periodically serve as the designated contact for units regarding weekend and holiday animal management.

Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4 years of experience in agricultural operations and/or agricultural research.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to supervise, train, and motivate student workers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with unit staff and faculty.
Basic knowledge of standard office equipment and procedures;
Email, Internet, and various software systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, Agriculture, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in livestock production and animal husbandry, with knowledge of beef cattle and/or swine management.
- Experience in both beef cattle and swine production.
- Prior supervisory or mentoring experience.
Salary Range: $44,920 - $71,870
