Join Auburn University to fill one of two open‑rank tenure‑track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE).
Position SummaryThe Auburn University Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering invites applications for two separate faculty positions:
Optimization and Statistics. Candidates may apply to one of the two positions.
- Strong theoretical foundations in optimization with a focus on real applications.
- Experience leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence methods for optimization.
- Research areas may include deterministic optimization (integer, nonlinear, combinatorial), global and non‑convex optimization, machine learning for optimization, explainable AI, heuristic and metaheuristic approaches, network design and analysis, and related topics in optimization, modeling, and decision sciences.
- Solid foundations in statistics with emphasis on process control, reliability, and 6‑Sigma (Black Belt or Master Black Belt preferred).
- Background in the theory of machine learning and AI.
- Research may include classical, Bayesian, or non‑parametric statistics; information science, data mining or analytics; statistical process control; machine learning methods (supervised, unsupervised, deep learning, reinforcement learning); AI methods (predictive modeling, natural language processing, generative AI); risk analysis, real options, finance, and related topics.
- Earned doctorate in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Potential for high‑quality research and teaching, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- For associate or full professor level: commensurate record of extramurally funded research, top‑tier scholarly publications, successful extramural collaborations, and teaching excellence.
- Eligibility to work in the United States and ability to maintain legal employment status.
- Robust extramurally funded research program in one or both fields.
- Commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, outreach, and service.
- Ability to collaborate with ISE faculty on research in manufacturing, logistics, transportation, human factors, healthcare, and systems engineering.
Submit a cover letter (indicating the selected position and desired rank), curriculum vitae, separate statements of research and teaching, and the names and contact information of three references. Applications will be evaluated beginning on December 12, 2025 and continue until a successful candidate has been identified. The intended start date is August 16, 2026.
SalarySalary range: $100,000–$175,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
