Museum Student Visitor Assistant
Auburn University invites students to apply for the Museum Student Visitor Assistant role at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. This role offers students the opportunity to work in a beautiful environment, be inspired by art, and develop professional hospitality, communication, and customer service skills.
Essential Functions- Warmly welcome all guests, ensuring they receive everything needed for a great visit
- Answer the telephone and transfer calls to the correct staff when needed
- Anticipate guests’ needs
- Promote and process monetary gifts of support/donations
- Process registration and program attendees
- Provide guest feedback to the Visitor Services Manager
- Perform regular area checks of museum spaces, including galleries, to ensure a welcoming environment for guests
- Conduct careful sales transactions through the POS system to ensure accurate cash handling and inventory control
- Assist with store merchandising, restocking, cleaning, and any other retail initiatives
- Gift wrap guest purchases
- Set‑up and break down events such as art exhibition openings and other programs or university‑sponsored events
- Promote safe work practices for guests and coworkers
- Successfully complete other general duties such as inventory, filing, cleaning, and errands
- 9:45 a.m. – 6:15 p.m., Tuesday – Sunday
- Evenings, depending on event schedule
- One – three shifts per week (approximately 12 hours per week)
- Weekend work is mandatory
- Work during university breaks is desired
- A mix of weekday and weekend is available

Minimum Qualifications- Currently enrolled as an Auburn University undergraduate student.
- Ideally, candidates should be able to lift 25 lbs, stoop, kneel, walk, carry equipment, and work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to read on a computer and answer a telephone.
- Availability to work weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pay Rate $14.00/hour. Work Hours up to 20. City position is located in Auburn, State position is located in Alabama.
