Mental Health Technician - FT Nights - 36 hrs/week - 7:00 PM-7:30 AM - every other weekend

Havenwyck Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited and licensed psychiatric hospital overlooking Lake Galloway in Auburn Hills, Michigan. We specialize in providing comprehensive, compassionate behavioral health services to children, adolescents and adults. Position SummaryThe Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes assisting with patient admissions, discharges and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non‑verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using intervention to de‑escalate the patient appropriately. Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusion, delusion and hallucination. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action to prevent harm.
Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse. Provides assistance with activities of daily living and encourages independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis while providing care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
- Follow instructions given by all nursing leadership and as outlined in Hospital policies and procedures.
- Report patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
- Report alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusion, delusion and hallucination; monitor safety issues regarding these patients and take action to prevent patient harm; communicate these issues to the Registered Nurse.
- Provide care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
- Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner and completes the appropriate documentation.

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Prefer a minimum of two years of college in areas of psychology, social work, mental health, and other related health fields.
- Experience in dealing with the emotionally disturbed preferred.
- Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
