Position: Mental Health Technician Adult Unit - FT Days - 12-Hr Shifts

Mental Health Technician - FT Days - 36 hrs/week - 7:00 AM-7:30 PM - every other weekend

Position Summary

HAVENWYCK HOSPITAL (a UHS facility) is a Joint Commission-accredited and licensed psychiatric hospital overlooking Lake Galloway in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes: assisting with patient admissions, discharges and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non‑verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using the necessary intervention to de‑escalate the patient appropriately; reporting alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between hallucinations, delusions and illusory experiences;

monitoring safety issues and taking action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm; communicating these issues to the Registered Nurse; and assisting patients with activities of daily living while encouraging independent behavior with appropriate interventions. Care is delivered in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow instructions given by nursing leadership and as outlined in hospital policies and procedures.
  • Report patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
  • Monitor safety issues regarding patients and take action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm; communicate these issues to the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges and transfers of patients in a timely manner and complete the appropriate documentation.
