SUMMARYThe Test Equipment Engineer will work with a team to design, build, program and support test equipment required for evaluating and validating our production parts. This equipment will range from basic holding fixtures through fully automated life cycle test systems. The ideal candidate will enjoy hands on work in a very dynamic setting and have previous automotive industry experience. The Test Equipment Engineer works closely with and provides training to the lab technicians, interfaces with the Product Engineer, Advanced Quality Engineer, and Validation Engineers to ensure the performance specification and product are understood.
This position is a mix of mechanical, electrical and software engineering so an ability to learn new methods and skills is a must.
- Design and develop custom test fixtures and automated test systems for automotive component validation of STRATTEC products such as electromechanical Power Access units, latching systems, keyfobs, etc..
- Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
- Specify and select instrumentation, sensors, DAQ systems, power supplies, and control hardware
- Perform hands‑on wiring, panel build support, and equipment integration
- Debug and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
- Develop test interface hardware for DUT (Device Under Test) connectivity
- Support mechanical design of fixture frames, brackets, enclosures, and structural components
- Generate 3D models and basic mechanical drawings for fixture components
- Collaborate with test engineers to define test requirements and system architecture
- Ensure compliance with automotive, safety, and lab standards
- Generate documentation including schematics, BOMs, mechanical drawings, test procedures, and validation reports
- Support lab maintenance, calibration coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical support during test execution and failure investigations
- Prove out new equipment, create method sheets and train lab personnel as required.
- Review performance specifications and verify that the test equipment produces relative results.
- Collaborate with the validation engineers and test lab coordinators to ensure the fixtures have the required mechanical and electrical interfaces.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering to ensure product is tested as intended.
- Verify equipment meets performance requirements at runoff.
- Generate cost reduction / avoidance ideas as it relates to Test System design and equipment construction.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Engineering (BS) or equivalent; plus five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
