Job DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated Automotive Plastics Design Engineer to support the design, development, and release of plastic components such as cowl screens and fuel doors. This role involves working with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure high-quality, manufacturable, and cost-effective parts while meeting program milestones and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, and eager to grow within a fast-paced automotive development environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support design, development, and release of plastic automotive components
- Prepare and maintain 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, and engineering documentation
- Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturing, quality, CAE, and vehicle integration teams
- Support design feasibility studies, DFMEA, tolerance stack-ups, and design reviews
- Address and resolve quality issues, fit/finish concerns, and design open points
- Support prototype builds, validation, and production release activities
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards, regulatory requirements, and internal guidelines
- Participate in cost optimization and design improvement initiatives
- Track deliverables to meet program milestones and timing
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Production Engineering, or equivalent
- 0–5 years of experience in automotive product development (plastic components preferred)
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of plastic part design and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, tooling)
- Hands-on experience or exposure to CAD tools such as CATIA V5 or NX (preferred)
- Understanding of GD&T, DFMEA, and engineering change processes
- Ability to identify and resolve quality/design issues effectively
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced automotive environment
