Overview
We are seeking a skilled Automotive Interior Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of console and door system engineering. This role involves design, development, validation, and production support for center consoles, overhead consoles, door trims, armrests, carriers, and associated mechanisms. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in interior system design, strong technical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure high-quality, manufacturable, and functional products.
ResponsibilitiesOwn end-to-end engineering responsibility for console and door systems, including trims, armrests, carriers, and associated mechanisms
Lead component design, development, and packaging to meet functional, ergonomic, safety, and aesthetic targets
Develop, manage, and execute Design Verification Plan & Report (DVPR) activities to ensure validation compliance
Manage engineering changes through formal change control processes with clear impact analysis
Maintain accurate and up-to-date Bills of Material (BOM) throughout development and production
Support prototype, pre-production, and mass production builds, addressing fit, finish, and functional issues
Lead issue management using structured root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies
Manage CAD models, drawings, and configurations using PLM systems
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including weight reduction, cost optimization, and design efficiency
Provide clear technical communication and status updates to management and program teams
Support vehicle assembly plants during launch and ongoing production for technical issue resolution
Support service and warranty teams by analyzing field issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure design robustness, manufacturability, and timely delivery
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline
3+ years of experience in automotive interior engineering, specifically with consoles and/or door systems
Strong understanding of console and door architecture, mechanisms, trims, attachment strategies, and materials
Hands-on experience with DVPR testing and validation activities
Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX) and PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter)
Solid understanding of automotive product development processes and change management
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
