Job SummaryOur client in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for a Design Release Engineer - Valve train Senior. This is a contract position.
What You Will Do- Responsible for engineering activities related to development of valve train and timing drive components for gasoline engines.
- Design, development, testing, manufacturing interface, and failure analysis.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers for problem solving, product improvement, cost reduction, and other issues as needed.
- Interact with all areas that touch the release of a component, including Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Engine Plants, Design Group, and Parts & Service.
- Travel to engine plants and suppliers as required.
- Motivated self‑starter, able to work in a fast‑paced environment; manage multiple priorities while considering inputs from various stakeholders.
- Resolve technical issues based on engineering analysis of camshafts, camshaft phasers, rocker arms, valves, valve seat & valve guide inserts, valve springs, timing chains, timing guides, and tensioners.
- Plan and coordinate test execution using engineering tools such as DFMEA and DVP&R, monitor progress and results.
- Analyze test and measurement data, create summaries with data‑based conclusions, and make recommendations to the team.
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience working with design and manufacturing of powertrain components;
Valve train or timing drive preferred. - Understanding of valve train/timing drive components and related manufacturing processes (steel stamping, machining, grinding, heat treatment, etc.).
- Understanding of product development documentation such as DFMEA and DVP&R.
- Understanding of Mechanics of Materials, Engine cam timing, CAE Analysis, and GD&T.
- Experience selecting materials and manufacturing methods for mechanical components.
- Ability to author system/component level requirements.
- Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/expertise.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong project management skills/expertise.
- Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in creating and executing validation plans.
