Pre-Program Design Release Engineer – Interior Trims

The Pre-Program Design Release Engineer – Interior Trims is responsible for supporting early-phase interior trim development by aligning program requirements with styling themes, ensuring feasibility, manufacturability, and readiness for program execution prior to design freeze.

Responsibilities
  • Synthesize program requirements (cost, weight, complexity, CNZ, timing) with interior theme styling.
  • Evaluate advanced interior themes against program assumptions and escalat[e] any incompatibilities.
  • Support In / Out / Exploration decision-making through concept design and development using standard decision matrices focused on quality, cost, timing, and performance.
  • Define Part of Record (POR) part break-up and assembly sequence for interior trim components.
  • Develop and manage source packages, including PBOM, eBOM, source packages, and technical sheets.
  • Establish and provide feasibility criteria to the Product Design Office to ensure a robust Style Freeze Release.
  • Oversee development of master sections for interior trims.
  • Lead development of initial 3D CAD models and CAD0 releases.
  • Oversee design practice analyses and resolution of red items.
  • Support technical reviews and participate in supplier rating and selection.
  • Drive logbook issue resolution and track open items.
  • Present top program and technical issues weekly to management.
  • Manage and evaluate co-located suppliers, ensuring alignment with program objectives.
  • Support NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) activities for interior trim systems during early program phases, including identification of squeak & rattle risks, definition of NVH countermeasures, and coordination with NVH, CAE, materials, and supplier teams to ensure compliance with program NVH targets prior to design freeze.
Requirements
  • Strong experience in automotive product development, preferably in interior trim systems.
  • Working knowledge of NVH principles related to interior trim components.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA and/or NX.
  • Experience managing PBOM / eBOM structures.
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation and specifications.
  • Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience in supplier management and technical evaluation.
  • Proven problem‑solving and issue‑resolution capabilities.
  • Experience performing feasibility analyses during early program phases.
  • Solid project planning and execution skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
