Compensation: Correctional Officer: $44,680.90;
Corporal: $46,924.80
Location: Positions located at facilities across the state.
Responsibilities- Oklahoma Department of Corrections is recruiting for Correctional Security Officers for multiple positions located across the State of Oklahoma.
- Applicants must be willing to attend an 8-week live-in academy in Oklahoma City from Sunday 6:00 PM through Thursday 6:00 PM and return home on weekends.
- After graduation, applicants will be eligible to receive a bonus incentive.
- $2,000 – Applicants assigned to Allen Gamble Correctional Center (Holdenville, Oklahoma)
- $1,000 – Applicants assigned to James Crabtree Correctional Center (Helena, Oklahoma), Joseph Harp Correctional Center (Lexington, Oklahoma) or Oklahoma State Penitentiary (McAlester, Oklahoma)
- Applicants will work at their selected facility with a Field Training Officer until the academy begins.

- Education and Experience
- Correctional Officer: Education and Experience requirements per Title 57 O.S., Section 510.A.2 (minimum age 20; 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university; or possession of a high school diploma or GED plus completion of a Department-approved training course).
- Note: Successful completion of the GED test is based on standards established by the Oklahoma Department of Education.
- Corporal: Those identified for Correctional Officer plus 12 months of experience in correctional or security work for a governmental agency or private corrections agency.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge of English usage, basic math, reporting writing, use and care of firearms, proper restraint methods and techniques, self-defense, discipline methods for inmates under restraint, and psychology of inmate behavior. Ability to evaluate situations, act quickly in emergencies, follow instructions, gather and organize facts, prepare clear reports, communicate effectively, maintain working relationships, and maintain firearms proficiency.
- Special Requirements
Satisfactory completion of minimum testing or professional evaluation; pre-employment and annual physical examinations; valid driver’s license; drug testing; willingness to work any shift or day; and other requirements as specified by the Department of Corrections. Includes potential designation as a peace officer and related training, including OC spray.
