Overview
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care to align with the medical treatment plan.
Responsibilities- Assessment - identify, gather and organize subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural aspects.
- Planning - identify actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team.
- Intervention - implement specific interventions or orders consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation - determine the effectiveness of interventions and whether desired outcomes are achieved; document required actions and, based on findings, reassess and revise problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions.
- Contribute to patient care by prioritizing problems relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self-care, educational and social status; set goals aligned with identified problems; provide education to support patient empowerment.
- May be required to perform Limited Laboratory Services, including specimen collection, processing, quality control, instrument maintenance and function checks; monitor, record and report test results to clinicians (including critical values) and maintain competency/certification.
Education/Licensure:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Nurses hired without BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year and complete within 3 years.
- Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multistate license required.
- BLS required.
- Valid NJ Driver's License is required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.
Experience: Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and then will be required to use these skills within 30-60 days from date of hire.
Performance Expectations: Demonstrates ability to perform department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
Work Environment: Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including blood borne pathogens, infectious diseases, hazardous substances, latex, radiation exposure and potential injury.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching
- Extensive standing and walking, including stairs
- Lifting approximately 25-50 pounds frequently
- Lifting approximately 50-100 pounds with assistance occasionally
- Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment
Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.

Work Environment – Electrophysiology Lab & Procedural AreasPotential for exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including blood borne pathogens, infectious diseases, hazardous substances, latex exposure, radiation exposure and potential injury.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching
- Extensive standing (lead wear) and walking, including stairs
- Lifting approximately 25-50 pounds frequently
- Lifting approximately 50-100 pounds with assistance occasionally
- Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment
- Transporting patients on stretchers unassisted
- Manual dexterity to hand off instruments
- Move patients between beds/stretchers and procedure tables
- Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.
