General Description and Classification Standards:

Provides a variety of services related to proper airport operations and assuring that airport operations are carried out safely and in accordance with regulations and policies. Oversees and inspects aircraft operating areas at the airport for compliance with established FAA and City policies and regulations. Inspects runways, taxiways, aprons, and ramps for proper and safe operations and for hazards; directs the removal of disabled aircraft;

investigates injuries; directs snow removal according to plan; coordinates safety procedures; prepares reports; and processes associated paperwork. This is a fully seasoned skilled level capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of the discipline. This level would be attainable by multiple incumbents in a work group (not necessarily by all), but would not be an automatic promotional level.

Supervision Received:

Works under general supervision. May work independently or with other professionals to accomplish essential duties.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

· Inspects airfield and aircraft movement areas and maintain records of inspections as required by FAA.

· Directs response activities with aircraft emergencies, hazmat spills, bomb threats/hijackings, and other related emergencies in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan and FAR Part 139.

· Manages conditions of all runways and taxiway.

· Coordinates with construction contractors on airfield projects and conducts safety inspection of operations.

· Provides escorts in aircraft movement areas as needed.

· Issues notices to airmen on airfield conditions (weather effects, construction, runway and/or taxiway closures, etc.).

· Maintains the HJAIA Safety Management System which allows the safe and efficient operation of commercial and private aircraft at and around the airport.

· Prepares, distributes, and disseminates pertinent, significant, and required reports (i.e. airport situational reports, airport incident/accident reports etc.) to executives, airport agencies, and tenants.

· Enforces City Codes, federal regulations, and departmental guidelines to tenant contractors or commercial operators to ensure public and property safety.

· Makes decisions on technical issues, diagnoses, or procedures in collaboration with supervisors or managers.

· Assists with the management of contracts.

· Responds to emergencies and coordinate their resolution while providing updates to executive staff.

· Provides operational expertise and is responsible for interacting and maintaining positive relationships with other departments and airport stakeholders.

· Develops new technology and solutions to provide improvements to training programs.

· May perform other duties as assigned.

· Knowledge of airport traffic operations, policies and procedures, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Airport Security Plan, emergency procedures and protocols.

· Knowledge of airport physical layout and utility systems sufficient to be able to inspect and identify problematic situations.

· Knowledge of safety procedures and precautions sufficient to be able to supervise, train, and provide safety instructions to subordinates and others and to recognize and correct hazardous situations.

· Skill in performing inspections and in reporting objectively and accurately.

· Skill in interpersonal communications with airline, security, vendor and Airport staff.
