Overview

Department of Recreational Services
: Atlanta Campus
. The Department is seeking an Aquatics, Safety and Student Development Coordinator to join the team and advance the department to the next level of excellence. This position is based at the Downtown Atlanta campus and provides supervision to the Atlanta campus facility. The primary responsibilities include managing operations and programs for the Aquatic Center at the Student Recreation Center, which includes a lap swim pool, leisure pool, spa, sauna, and pool patio area.

The role involves overseeing the operation and general cleanliness of indoor pools and pool patio, and performing as needed for Certified Pool Operator duties.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation, safety, and cleanliness of the Aquatic Center facilities.
  • Assist and participate in Certified Pool Operator duties; maintain balanced water chemistry.
  • Assess risk management issues involving patrons, staff, and program participants.
  • Support the department through safety and risk management education and training.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for aquatic programs and operations.
  • Maintain and update the website and department registration information regarding aquatics.
  • Possess hands-on knowledge of pool equipment, operations, safety and risk management, event planning, aquatic programming, budget management, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Supervise, mentor, evaluate and lead 1 Graduate Assistant and 25+ student lifeguard assistants; recruit, hire, train, and schedule student staff (lifeguards, swim instructors, safety class instructors).
  • Manage in-service safety training, mock emergencies, and semester audits; provide leadership to aquatics staff.
  • Serve as chair of the department Risk Management Committee and support department-wide initiatives for student staff development.
  • Develop, coordinate, and teach group adult learn-to-swim classes and CPR/AED/Epinephrine (safety) certification classes for patrons and departmental staff.
  • Manage equipment inventory and purchasing for aquatics and safety; collaborate on the aquatics program budget, including payroll approval, equipment, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director, Recreation in budgeting and program development.
Minimum Hiring Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Administration or related field and three years of related experience, or equivalent training/experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Administration or related field.
  • 4 years of aquatic management experience with campus recreation programming and administration.
  • Certifications as Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor Trainer, and Certified Pool Operator.
  • Experience with student staff supervision including hiring, training, payroll and evaluation.
