Overview

The Blaze Sports Adaptive Sports Veteran Program Coordinator will implement community-based adaptive physical activity and sport programs and events for individuals with a physical disability or visual impairment in collaboration with the program staff, coaches, and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement and manage all weekly community-based adaptive sport and physical activity programs that address the needs of veterans with physical disabilities. Programs include cycling, archery, pickleball, cornhole, bowling, rowing, yoga, water aerobics, air rifle, fitness, tennis, clinics, and weekend camps.
  • Complete new member assessments and log information.
  • Limited travel with various Blaze Sports sports teams as needed to team tournaments and competitions.
  • Assist with annual sport competitions including the Peachtree Paragames.
  • Program data collection including weekly and monthly attendance and other program reports as required.
  • Develop and facilitate partnerships with like-minded organizations to expand the mission of Blaze Sports such as the VA Clinics of Georgia, PRRC, Warrior Alliance, VETlanta, etc.
  • Manage Blaze Sports Equipment Loan Program (ELP), including the loan and return of equipment to individual athletes and organizations as per Blaze Sports ELP policy and procedures.
  • Assist with maintenance of Blaze Sports adaptive sports equipment and conduct annual inventory.
  • Drive Blaze Sports vehicles, including a trailer, on a weekly basis and loading/unloading equipment for programs.
  • Perform other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by Program Manager and Blaze Sports team.
Skills and Attributes
  • The ideal candidate will have a degree in recreational therapy, this is not a requirement.
  • Experience working with those with PTSD Diagnosis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to take action and lead/facilitate groups.
  • Proactive, positive attitude with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be mature, enthusiastic, energetic, and able to relate well to a wide variety of people.
  • Must be team-oriented.
  • Evening and weekend hours required in support of our programs.
  • Must be able to travel as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work inside and outside (seasonally/occasionally), and in inclement weather for brief periods of time.
  • Ability to perform regular vigorous work activity that may involve lifting (25 lbs. or more), loading vans/vehicles, setting up for events & programs, etc.
