This position is responsible for:

Provides daily supervision, monitoring, reporting, and technical support services to clients in a residential shelter environment; interviews and screens clients for eligibility to receive The Salvation Army’s residential assistance; maintains appropriate records in addition to ongoing written and verbal communication with clinical and other professional staff in relationship to daily client activities; refers clients to other community service agencies when appropriate;

performs crisis intervention counseling when needed; works with individual and groups to develop life management skills; facilitates an emotional and physical environment conducive to enhancing positive client morale and stabilization; reports pertinent information to the Program Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screens applicants for social service assistance; documents pertinent information to include referrals, medical and psychological state, chemical or alcohol dependency, etc.; assess client’s lodging status and makes appropriate decision for services; determines if client has been prepaid by sponsor or credit; prepares resident roster and maintains resident property records.
  • Provides appropriate services within agency capabilities and referrals to other resources when necessary; prepares and distributes meal tickets, laundry tokens, towels, linens, clothing, and personal hygiene items; maintains accurate records of items dispensed;
  • Receives, receipts, and processes payments for rent and updates intake cards as needed; obtains client’s signature on necessary forms which includes house rules and regulations; prepares, tallies, and balances monies with receipts; drops the money in the safe.
  • Monitors the activities of the residents ensuring safety and compliance with house rules and regulations, this includes when in chapel, recreation, and at meals; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift; prepares incident reports.
  • Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provides crisis counseling, and assists clients in following their program plan; informs assigned Case Managers or Program Director of special problems, needs, etc.
  • Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists;
    Works with individuals and groups as needed to enhance social skills and the ability to enjoy and function within a group living situation.
  • Inspects program area daily; provides individual instruction or correction to clients regarding proper use of the facility as needed; reports damage or other maintenance needs to Program Director.
  • Periodically monitors bed assignments; wakes up clients at designated time and instructs them to collect their sheets; ensures that all residents are out of the facility by the designated time; distributes client luggage.
  • Maintains client and program records daily; submits required reports and statistics; prepares written incident reports.
  • Assists in serving client’s meals.
  • Provides necessary crisis intervention; ensures 24-hour monitoring of clients.
  • Serves as advocate for victims at the hospital or Police Department; drives a vehicle to transport victims to a shelter.



Physical Requirements and

Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements;
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language;
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5
-10% of work time;
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

What We Are Looking For In You
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One (1) years’ experience performing security or social service work is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Valid Driver’s License.
