Seasonal Maintenance Worker; Historic Preservation

Summary

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

This is a 2026 Summer Seasonal position.

As a Maintenance Worker (Historic Preservation), you will perform the following duties:

• Repairs and modifies wood components of historic/prehistoric structures.
• Assists in the fabrication and installation of duplicate replacement parts of deteriorated wood members such as moldings, beams, timbers and stairways.
• Cleans and prepares buildings, walls, trim, and floor surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, and wire brushing.
• Assists with treating wooden vigas, latillas, historic/prehistoric lintels and doorsills.
• Assists in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of prehistoric and historic ruins and sites built of stone, mortar, and adobe.
• Performs minor operator maintenance on light duty motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, panel and flatbed trucks, and carryalls.
• Cuts and removes brush; digs and fills trenches with pick and shovel.
• Assists journey level trade workers by performing simpler and routine historic preservation tasks.
• Assists journey level trade workers maintain, repair, stabilize and document cultural resources.
• Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers.
• Monitors condition changes of the prehistoric and historic ruins and structures.

Conditions of employment

• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
• Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
• You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver s license is required. You must also submit a Motor Vehicle Operator s License and Driving Record.
• You must submit, within a State sealed envelope or directly by State authorities, at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver s licenses.
• You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
• Government Charge Card: you may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

• Knowledge of Materials
