Performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and safety guidelines. Follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify causes of problems. Maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or technical training and a high school diploma.
The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May be in an on-call status and may be responsible for training or assisting lower level staff. Performs other duties as required.
- Under limited supervision, perform complex installations, replacements, or repairs to chillers, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment and systems. Troubleshoots and executes major or complex repairs. Lead projects for complex HVACR installation and replacement projects in campus buildings.
- Serve as the University's technical expert on HVACR system operations, repairs, and maintenance. Plan, schedule, and oversee major HVACR repair projects (e.g., air handling units, chillers, boilers) and lead emergency repair efforts.
- Oversee repair efforts of less experienced HVACR technicians performing complex repairs and maintenance on HVACR systems and related components.
- Inspect HVACR systems and components (air handling units, chillers, heat exchangers, heating units, exhaust fans, ventilation equipment) to evaluate status and material condition, identify necessary repairs, and recommend actions.
- Install, maintain, diagnose, and adjust DDC, pneumatic, electric, and other controls systems for a wide range of HVACR equipment to maintain desired temperatures and humidity levels.
- Coordinate and plan assigned work orders using the Facilities Work Management system to prioritize and schedule work to meet university needs. Identify options, develop solutions, and respond to stakeholder requests.
- May be required to participate in on-call rotations and remain work-ready when scheduled.
- May be responsible for training, assisting, or directing lower-level staff.
- Perform all other duties as required.
- Required:
High School diploma or GED or HVACR vocational training with 8 years of experience, or an Associate degree from an accredited college or university. - Driver's License
- Universal Refrigerant Card
- NATE HVAC Certification or approved equivalent
- Possession of or eligibility for necessary licenses/certifications as required by location (HVAC license and EPA Section 608 may apply)
- Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys and eight or more years of applicable experience.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software/databases
- Journeyman-level knowledge of installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of HVACR systems
- Planning and organizing to use materials, manpower, and equipment cost-effectively to support campus operations and safety
Shift: Days, Monday – Friday
Pay Band: 11
Salary Minimum: $27.21/hour
