Facilities Maintenance Technician

General Statement of Job

The purpose of this classification is to perform repairs, coordinate, and monitor operational building maintenance activities for Police Precincts, Arts Centers, Recreational Center, Fire Stations, and other City-owned facilities in multiple locations around the City of South Fulton in a variety of maintenance disciplines. Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the employee performs a wide variety of repairs and maintenance for city building and facilities as required.

• Perform skilled/manual work functions associated with general maintenance of assigned facilities, such as installing/repairing plumbing systems, laying tile flooring, and troubleshooting HVAC units.
• Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine semi‑skilled maintenance for facilities; ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
• Repair and maintain facilities and equipment; perform general construction, repair, and installation tasks; perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, landscaping, and other tasks.
• Operate a variety of maintenance and cleaning tools and equipment, and perform related work as required.
• May work independently or with other skilled or semi‑skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.
• Perform general maintenance, repair, and installation tasks such as installing/repairing doors, changing light bulbs, locks, fences, light plumbing duties, plumbing fixtures, replacing windows, repairing gutters and roof leaks, assembling furniture or equipment, hanging pictures, blinds, and moving furniture.
• Maintain inventory levels of tools and materials; order supplies as needed; pick up special parts from suppliers as appropriate.
• Identify and request supplies needed for tasks related to repairs and preventive maintenance of building systems.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• High School Diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing or electrical, or a related field preferred.
• Three (3) years of experience in HVAC, plumbing or electrical, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Requires a valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
