Overview

Manages, directs and coordinates the repair, maintenance and installation of machines and equipment in the maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems of plants. This is a journeyman level position performing a full range of semi‑skilled and skilled tasks. Duties include plumbing, welding, and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, chemical feeders, chlorinators, control units, pumps, water tanks and other production equipment using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, adjust and repair machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer specifications.
  • Identify equipment maintenance needs; record mechanical readings; lubricate and clean parts.
  • Repair and troubleshoot equipment and observe mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantle devices to access defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
  • Repair electrical equipment, weld and use cutting torches.
  • Perform routine mechanical, electrical, welding or machining maintenance activities, including lubrication, inspection, and replacement of parts; maintain stock levels of lubricants.
  • Conduct performance tests of plant equipment using tachometers, pressure gauges, flow meters, amp and volt meters.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, update and repair malfunctioning plant equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and overhaul treatment plant equipment including aeration blowers, barminutors, pumps, motors, compressors, belt presses, valves, drive units, hydraulic control units, chlorinators, chemical feeders, pneumatic equipment and hydraulic pressure systems.
  • Participate in the installation of wastewater treatment plant equipment and modifications to maximize treatment process performance.
  • Perform pipe fitting; install and repair air, sewer and hydraulic piping systems.
  • Maintain accurate records on operations, activities, safety, shipping and receiving of parcels, and plant function readings.
  • Prepare reports on data, equipment history, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices including lockout/tag‑out and confined space rules and regulations.
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams for wastewater systems.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, cranes, forklifts and graders as necessary.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair methods for wastewater plant equipment, lubricants, electrical codes, pipe fitting, fabrication, PLC, telemetry, fiber optics and safety practices.
  • Skill in using office equipment, computers and supporting software applications.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks, interpret policies, operate equipment safely, read technical manuals and blueprints, and maintain detailed records and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in maintenance and repair of wastewater plant equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mechanical Technician license, Basic Mechanic, Maintenance Technician certification, wastewater operators license, Class A CDL, water distribution license, journeyman’s license, welding certification.
  • Completion of a technical or vocational course of study in mechanics or a related field, or associate’s degree in the appropriate area with 5 years of experience.
Lifting Requirements

Medium work: exert up to 50 lbs occasionally, up to 30 lbs frequently, up to 10 lbs constantly to move objects.
