Assist the foreman and skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties under close supervision. Usually an entry level position that is the first step to learn a skill.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Digging, spreading and leveling dirt, sand and gravel using a pick, shovel or rake.
- Lift, carry and hold construction materials, tools and supplies.
- Clean tools, equipment, materials and work area.
- Mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel and other materials using hand tools.
Join, wrap and seal sections of pipe. - Perform routine non‑machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trench and assembling sections of pipe.
- Perform machine tasks such as tapping soil, jack hammering and assisting in the fusing of pipe.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Must be able to drive.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position involves work at and around the Jacksonville airport. The candidate must successfully complete a background check for security clearance and a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is essential.
Education and Experience- Less than a High School Diploma.
A valid driver's License is required.
Working Conditions- Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
- Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
