Lead Research Specialist/Biochemist – Tetramer Core at Emory University

The Tetramer Core Facility (TCF – a contract funded by NIH) within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking an experienced Senior Research Specialist/Biochemist to join our team. The scope of work includes preparation and worldwide distribution of MHC tetramers, reagents used to identify antigen‑specific T cells.

Responsibilities include:

  • Loading synthetic peptides onto MHC proteins.
  • Using SDS‑PAGE and MALDI‑TOF assays for quality control.
  • Maintaining records in established laboratory databases.
  • Preparation of client orders, packing, and shipping.
  • Under minimal supervision, performing a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Using independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.
  • Assisting in protocol design and exploring alternative experimental procedures.
  • Planning, scheduling, and analyzing research procedures.
  • Training others in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Calibrating, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Reviewing literature for related research developments and compiling findings.
  • Monitoring laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.
  • Recording results, compiling and analyzing data, and preparing charts and graphs.
  • Monitoring handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Providing related responsibilities as required.
  • Employees may be required to work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and at least two years of research experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; strong teamwork orientation.

Work Environment: Typical laboratory setting with exposure to hazards requiring basic safety precautions; work may involve bending, kneeling, or squatting. Work schedule will be discussed during interview.

Pre‑Employment Screening: Emory National Primate Research Center conducts screenings including background checks, verification of credentials, drug screening, and required vaccinations. COVID‑19 vaccinations may be required for specific projects.

Position tasks are required to be performed in‑person at an Emory University location; remote work is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice.
