Job SummaryServes as a member of the care team with the primary responsibility of managing patients who seek care in the office, Obstetrical Emergency Department, and Family Birth Center under the supervision of the attending. Performs comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, orders, and interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory tests, and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of obstetrical and gynecologic conditions.
Promotes healthy pregnancies and neonatal outcomes. Practices autonomously and in collaboration with other health care professionals to treat and manage gynecologic and obstetrical conditions. Also, responsible for providing prenatal education and support, attending childbirth, providing encouragement during labor and delivery, and supervising the general care of women and children directly after birth. Calls on attending physician for obstetrical emergencies. The role of Certified Nurse Midwife includes direct patient/family care, resident/ midwifery education, consultation, patients/ families/ group and community advocacy to holistic care for complex patient care needs.
- Provides immediate, high acuity care to pregnant patients, specializing in rapid assessment, triage, labor management, and fetal monitoring in the obstetrical emergency department.
- Perform duties related to ambulatory and acute care midwifery including gynecological exams, preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery care, care after birth, newborn care, disease prevention, family planning, health maintenance counseling, and menopausal management. Consults with a physician as needed.
- Educates women about different types of care available and encourages them to enhance their pregnancy by being involved. Emphasizes patient education, active participation, clear communication between the provider and the woman, and an individualized health care experience. Advocates birth education and the participation of the entire family. Write prescriptions as needed.
- Registered Nurse in State of Georgia
- Master’s or Doctor in Nurse Practice with successful completion of nurse midwifery program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).
- Board certified by American Midwifery Certification Board
- Eighteen (18) months experience as a certified nurse midwife.
- Previous experience as a labor and delivery registered nurse
