Responsibilities

The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The nurse functions within the organization’s policies and procedures and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities with assigned staff, and ensuring quality nursing care for all patients.

Qualifications Education
  • Graduate from a nursing program – Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Preferred
Work Experience
  • No experience required – New graduates of a nursing program eligible – Required
  • Nursing experience in hospital setting – Preferred
  • 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions – Required
Licenses & Certifications
  • RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate licensure – Current license required
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support – Required
Additional Licenses & Certifications
  • Advanced certification in specialty (if applicable) – Addendum
Addendum
  • Cardiac Tele: ACLS certification required within 180 days
  • Critical Care: ACLS certification required within 180 days
  • Dialysis: CDN certification – Preferred
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification required within 180 days; experienced nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS certification
  • Infusion/Oncology:
    Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification – Prior independent chemotherapy administration required at Hire
  • Pediatrics: PALS certification required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital; PEARS or PALS certification required at Piedmont Athens Hospital – 180 days required
  • Surgical Services:
    Pre Op/PACU/ENDO/CSU – ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients – BLS required only within 180 days
  • Women’s Services:
    Labor and Delivery ACLS certification required; NRP, AWHONN, NICU and other newborn certifications required within respective timelines up to 180 days
