Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Plans, coordinates and directs the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit.
- Supervises staff and facilitates communication with physicians and internal administrators.
- Functions as a change agent and leads efforts to strengthen organizational systems that support the mission, vision and values of the department.
- Demonstrates expert communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and collaborative skills.
- Role models expert clinical care and risk management, completing relevant reports within specified time frames.
- Ensures compliance with unit policies and procedures.
- Stays informed of innovative clinical trends through benchmarking and evidence‑based practice.
- Supports delegation using the Synergy model and assists staff in effective delegation.
Clinical Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentors other Registered Nurses to the role and functions of Charge Nurse.
- Leads and coordinates team behavior, fostering leadership development.
- Provides direction and guidance concerning policies, scheduling, assignments and daily operations.
- Completes performance reviews with Nurse Manager input as appropriate.
- Applies the Synergy model for care in nurse‑patient assignments.
- Evaluates the use of resources and implements cost‑containment activities.
- Coordinates unit staffing to meet departmental needs.
- Initiates test of change to resolve one managerial problem.
- Participates in preparation for regulatory agency reviews.
- Assists in administrative activities such as budget planning and communication on concerns.
- Evaluates the impact of policies on daily operations and supports administrative decisions.
- Ensures compliance with educational requirements through scheduling and support.
- Helps staff hear and understand each other’s viewpoints.
- Demonstrates and role‑models effective communication.
- Builds an environment fostering open and candid communication.
- Acts as an arbitrator to resolve nursing staff conflicts.
- Addresses unacceptable communication/behavior with appropriate actions.
- Counsel employees on performance and attendance issues.
- Supports unit and colleague needs with supportive, non‑judgmental behaviors.
- Empowers and advocates for nurses.
- Handles patient complaints and escalated issues, referring to Unit Director or Patient Advocate.
- Monitors issue resolution.
- Challenges and refines systems to achieve best outcomes on the unit and hospital‑wide.
- Implements innovative approaches to meet patient and family needs.
- Identifies and provides resources for staff to meet patient and family needs.
- Initiates and collaborates on educational programs.
- Develops management/leadership‑focused in‑services.
- Demonstrates evidence‑based practice and disseminates information.
- Questions management practice in relation to research.
- Must meet all Clinical Nurse employee commitments.
- Achieves points and contact hours defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system.
- Graduate of an accredited pre‑licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum of 2 years recent nursing experience and 2 years in the area of concentration.
- Valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
- BLS certification (required); ACLS may be required for certain departments (post‑hire).
- Active compact/multistate license (eNLC) required within 60 days of hire if virtual care includes multi‑state practice.
- Employees before 11/09/2025 must achieve compact status by their next renewal date.
