Job Summary: The Resident RN Clinician is an entry‑level nurse participating in the Nursing Residency Program (NRP) to develop clinical skills and apply newly acquired knowledge in patient care. Under supervision, the residents learn to assess patient needs, implement care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes. With experience, they integrate with the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care to provide individualized care.
Key Responsibilities- Develop basic assessment skills and apply nursing knowledge to patient care.
- Recognize the impact of nursing interventions on patient outcomes.
- Document patient care accurately in electronic and physical records.
- Identify patient and family learning needs and utilize resources accordingly.
- Demonstrate time management and delegation skills based on the Synergy Model.
- Function as a Charge Nurse only in extenuating circumstances.
Collaboration:
- Enhance listening abilities and recognize obstacles to effective communication.
- Seek assistance when needed and collaborate with the healthcare team.
- Ensure efficient use and accurate billing of medical supplies.
- Uphold and ensure the confidentiality of patient information.
- Identify personal learning needs and engage in continuous education.
- Complete orientation, annual health assessments, and regulatory/safety training.
- Successfully complete the residency program and maintain required performance standards.
- Attend at least 75% of department‑based meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
- Experience: New graduate with no experience. Entry‑level nurses serving in their first nursing role are required to participate in the NRP. Must enter the program within 12 months of graduation (exceptions considered for personal or military commitments). Emory employees enrolled in an Emory ADN program as of 3/30/2025 must sign an obligation agreement to complete an ADN‑to‑BSN program within two years of entering the Resident RN Clinician role.
ASN candidates who accepted an offer prior to 3/30/2025 must sign an obligation agreement to complete an ASN/ADN‑to‑BSN program within two years of entering the Resident RN Clinician role. - Licensure: Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
- Certification: BLS certification. ACLS may be required for certain departments, post‑hire. Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty.
