Responsibilities
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Assess patient’s pre‑operative status at intervals per facility policies, covering cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, hemodynamic, pain, comfort, and mental status.
  • Interpret information from non‑invasive and invasive monitors; describe the underlying pathophysiology of common diseases; explain physiology of anesthesia techniques and interventions.
  • Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care by implementing:
    • Preparing for and protecting patient from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
    • Communicating the patient’s current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care.
    • Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, thermal sources.
    • Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and following reporting procedures for unsafe situations.
    • Speaking up with safety concerns as a patient advocate.
    • Handling specimens per facility policy.
    • Adhering to standard precautions and PPE use.
    • Providing acute pain and comfort management.
    • Administering medications safely using the 8‑rights of safe medication administration.
    • Performing interventions to maintain wound and tissue perfusion at baseline or above.
    • Ensuring patient is at or returned to normothermia after the immediate postoperative period.
    • Providing nursing and appropriate monitoring per policies.
    • Performing interventions to protect patient from infection.
    • Managing other co‑morbid conditions and fluid status as applicable.
    • Assessing patient or support person’s knowledge level.
    • Providing education on psychosocial response, nutrition, medical, pain, wound management, and expected responses.
    • Involving patient or support person actively in decisions.
    • Protecting patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
    • Providing age‑specific, culturally competent care within legal practice standards.
    • Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time‑out policy.
  • Evaluate patient’s progress toward outcomes.
  • Transfer care as needed.
  • Provide hand‑off report to other teammates that is accurate, concise, and pertinent.
  • Delegate tasks according to state laws and board requirements.
  • Document episode of care completely, accurately, and legibly.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with perioperative team and stakeholders.
  • Serve as member of a multidisciplinary team planning patient care.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in performance appraisal process.
  • Use problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.
  • Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth.
  • Act as patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality.
  • Comply with SCA and facility policies when providing patient care.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • One year of ICU, ED, PACU, and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
  • Current state licensure in good standing.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
  • Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required if pediatric care is within facility scope, within 90 days or current certification.
  • Specialty certification in Perioperative or perianesthesia Nursing preferred.
