Summary

The Associate Director for Programs Development supports the Programs Development Department in planning and implementing fundraising activities, with a focus on creating grant proposals and other essential written materials. This role is crucial to the financial health of the Carter Center’s Health, Peace, and Education Programs, which have annual funding needs of $75-100 million and manage over 100 grants and contributions.

The Associate Director will manage a specific portfolio of fundraising projects, collaborate with Senior Associate Directors to advance fundraising and donor stewardship, and work with the team on writing projects and system improvements for grants management. This position reports to a Senior Associate Director and may require periodic domestic and international travel and re-entry into the United States. As a result, HEAT (Hostile Environment Awareness Training) may be required prior to international travel.

  • Works with the Sr. Associate Director, Lead or Sr. Associate Director, Director, Peace Development and other team members, to implement appropriate fundraising strategies, track the success of these strategies, and prepares alternative approaches as necessary to meet fundraising goals.
  • Researchers identifies, and prepares written solicitations to donor prospects. Maintains a discrete fundraising portfolio, which includes development and implementation of fundraising strategies on behalf of specific Carter Center programs and special projects.
  • Drafts and edits donor (governments, foundations, corporations, individuals, etc.) correspondence and proposals in support of the Carter Center’s Health, Peace, and Education Programs.
  • Drafts fundraising strategy papers and briefing memoranda for the Director and executive staff in preparation for donor meetings; identifies opportunities for meetings with local, national, and international donors, and assists in the planning of and preparation for those meetings.
  • Responsible for monitoring and managing the grants management and reporting for the projects within his/her portfolio and provides grant management assistance for other projects.
  • Develops and implements systems that improve the overall Programs Development department’s complex grant oversight and management. Ensures accurate donor record management (electronic files, SharePoint, Teams, Unit 4, and Raiser’s Edge).
  • Supports donor recognition through drafting/editing articles, press releases, public statements, social media coverage, and recognition in presentations and public events, in collaboration with the Communications Department. Ensures compliance with donor branding requirements.
  • Works in partnership with development colleagues and Health, Peace, and Education Programs staff to organize meetings and events. Identifies and proposes fundraising opportunities in connection with these meetings and events.
